HOW TO INSTALL
ClassGuard is not on the Play Store yet, so Android needs a few extra taps. Do these on the Android phone, in this order. It takes about 3 minutes.
Part 1: Pause Play Protect (before you download)
Play Protect checks apps that don't come from the Play Store and can block ClassGuard. You will turn it back on at the end.
- Open the Play Store app.
- Tap your profile picture (the round picture or letter in the top right corner).
- Tap Play Protect.
- Tap the settings gear (⚙) in the top right corner.
- Turn off Scan apps with Play Protect, then tap Turn off to confirm.
Part 2: Download and install
- Come back to this page in Chrome and tap Download for Android above.
- If Chrome says the file might be harmful, tap Download anyway.
- When it finishes, tap Open. (Missed it? Open the Files app, go to Downloads and tap the file whose name starts with classguard.)
- If Android says "For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source": tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source, then tap the back arrow.
- Tap Install and wait a few seconds.
- If a box says "App scan recommended" or "Unsafe app blocked", tap More details and then Install anyway. (Don't tap "Scan app".)
- Tap Done (don't open it yet).
Part 3: Turn protection back on
- Open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Play Protect, then the gear (⚙).
- Turn Scan apps with Play Protect back on.
- Optional: stop Chrome installing apps again. Open Settings → Apps → Chrome → Install unknown apps and turn off Allow from this source.
- If Play Protect ever asks to remove ClassGuard, tap Keep app (or Ignore).
Part 4: Open ClassGuard
- Open ClassGuard from the home screen and sign in, or pair the phone with the code from the parent or school.
- On a child's phone, a setup checklist appears. Tap Fix on each line. Stuck? Tap the ? next to it for step-by-step help.
- When the phone asks about the camera or microphone, always choose While using the app, never Only this time.
Updating later: download the new version here and install it over the old one. You don't need to uninstall, and nothing is lost. Repeat Part 1 and Part 3 if Play Protect blocks it.
To check the download is untouched, compare its SHA-256 shown above with the one your phone's file manager reports.
